Education

Sinfonia Cymru is a body of young musicians with the power to inspire other young people with the wonder of music.

Each season, the orchestra actively develops a full programme of education workshops, children’s concerts and community events to complement Sinfonia Cymru’s main programme of work thereby building relationships with whole communities and creating a legacy for the orchestra extending beyond each performance.

Sinfonia Cymru has recently established Gwent Music Support Service and Carmarthenshire County Music Service as ‘Youth Partners’ and focuses much of its educational activity on side-by-side initiatives in these areas.

Our most recent project

A creative music and dance project based on the Carnival of the Animals for primary school children (years 5 & 6 transition) in three primary schools in the Gwendraeth Valley (Pontyberem, Bancffosflen and Tymbl) during the latter part of the Summer term 2010. This project included three visits to schools by a professional musician/teacher and culminated on 13th July with a sharing event for all participating pupils (120) in the morning during which the children showcased their work followed by an orchestral performance by Sinfonia Cymru of the Carnival of the Animals offered free to the whole school population of all three schools (400).  This project was sponsored by The Co-operative Community Fund.

Our next project

We shall work with Internationally renowned Welsh harpist Catrin Finch in primary and schools in Carmarthenshire and Gwent on the Music of Wales, focusing on the orchestra's commission Mabinogi - Harp Concerto by Geraint Lewis.
