Ambassadors have one thing in common: a desire to make a musical difference to their local community through Sinfonia Cymru.
Bryn Terfel - Ambassador
In 2009, Sinfonia Cymru established the Bryn Terfel Ambassadors Scheme with Bryn’s personal endorsement. Through our Ambassadors, Sinfonia Cymru has been able to make closer links with local communities and increase awareness of and involvement in our various concerts and projects. The orchestra currently has fourteen Bryn Terfel Ambassadors working voluntarily on its behalf in Carmarthenshire, Powys, Gwynedd and Wrexham. There are individual Ambassadors and collective Ambassadors, already formed as part of a local committee or society.
The role of a Bryn Terfel Ambassador is neither prescribed nor limited. We make no specific demands. We would prefer that you tell us what you think you can do. Examples of ways in which our Ambassadors work on our behalf within their local communities include distributing leaflets and flyers to local shops and amenities, organising group bookings for concerts, helping distribute e-marketing to local business networks and even working with us to deliver projects in schools, hospitals and homes for the elderly .
If you feel passionately that Sinfonia Cymru could do more to raise awareness of its activities in your local area, then please email info@sinfoniacymru.co.uk or call us on 01446 796201.

What do I think is special about Sinfonia Cymru?
This is very difficult to express in words, the very first time I heard Sinfonia Cymru play I was spellbound. To experience a group of such young musicians playing at The Pavilion is a very special experience. They play with clear enthusiasm and enjoyment which is wonderful to both watch and listen to.
Why did I become a Bryn Terfel Ambassador?
As the founder of Dod Diary I am passionate about the promotion of the arts within Mid Powys and in particular, Llandrindod Wells. To have an orchestra of young musicians of the quality of Sinfonia Cymru playing twice a year in the town is a real positive for the local arts scene. The Pavilion is an excellent venue, the acoustics are fantastic and the performance by Sinfonia never fails to lift my spirits. This is something that the residents of Mid Powys should experience for themselves and assisting in promoting Sinfonia Cymru as a Bryn Terfel Amabassador was a logical step in growing the audiences for the arts in Llandrindod Wells. I will not be happy until I see a full house at The Pavilion.
What have I enjoyed most about being an Ambassador?
Quite simply the listening to the feedback from first timers at a concert who are always a bit apprehensive about going but come up to you afterwards with a beaming smile and wanting more, and this is even more special if they are children.
Donald Johnson, Bryn Terfel Ambassador (Llandrindod Wells)
What do you think is special about Sinfonia Cymru?
That 1-2 times each year quality orchestral classical music is available l-i-v-e practically on my doorstep here in rural Mid Wales -- from an ever fresh and changing group of 40 enthusiastic and committed young Welsh professional musicians. It's a miracle, really!
Why did you become a Bryn Terfel Ambassador?
Because I like miracles in my life! Primarily, I have distributed posters and written press releases and passionately encouraged others to attend Sinfonia Cymru concerts because I want to hear great live classical music in my home town. But part of the miracle is enjoying the music with others -- so I promote attendance at Sinfonia Cymru events in order to help improve both myself and the town I live in.
What have you enjoyed the most about being an Ambassador?
Besides having these waves of sacred sound pour over me and my neighbours, I also enjoy the challenge and satisfaction of teamwork and shared success. I love working with many others -- both here in Llandrindod Wells and within Sinfonia Cymru itself -- to help plan, promote and create such wonderful musical events.
And another miracle I enjoy is that all this magic happens without a single word being spoken publicly. Good live classical music bypasses the busy mind and penetrates to our senses, emotions and heart. It makes us better human beings.
